Regional Transport Offices in Andhra Pradesh - Complete AP RTO Guide 2026

Andhra Pradesh made transport history in 2019 when it became the first state in India to implement a unified "One State, One RTO Code" policy, replacing the traditional district-wise RTO codes with a single registration prefix: AP-39 for all new vehicles. This policy, introduced to simplify vehicle registration and reduce the administrative burden of managing dozens of district codes, was a bold administrative reform that distinguished AP from every other state in India. In 2023, as AP-39 series became exhausted, the new series AP-40 was launched.

AP's Historic RTO Code Transition

Prior to February 2019, Andhra Pradesh used district-specific codes from AP-01 (Srikakulam) through AP-38 (covering various districts). Vehicles registered before 2019 still carry these older codes, and the respective district RTOs continue to service these vehicles for renewals, NOCs, and transfers. New registrations from 2019 onwards all carry AP-39 or AP-40.
