What is FASTag?
FASTag is an RFID-based tag attached to your vehicle’s windshield. When passing through a toll plaza, the scanner reads the tag and the toll amount is automatically deducted from your linked account/wallet. This eliminates the need for cash, reduces queues, and saves both time and fuel. The government has mandated FASTag on nationwide highways for seamless toll collection, making it essential for every vehicle owner.
How to Buy and Register FASTag
You can obtain FASTag from banks (SBI, ICICI, HDFC, Axis, Kotak, PNB, etc.), payment apps (Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay), or toll plaza counters.
Documents Required:
- Vehicle RC
- KYC (Aadhaar/PAN/Driving License)
- Recent photo
Installation: Place the tag on the inner side of the windshield, below the rear-view mirror at the center.
Activation: Complete KYC with the issuing bank/app and link it to your vehicle number.
FASTag Recharge Methods
Recharge your FASTag via:
- UPI apps (PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm UPI, BHIM)
- Net banking / Debit-Credit card
- Issuing bank portal/app
- NHAI/IHMCL wallet (if issued via NHAI prepaid wallet)
Tip: Enable auto-recharge or low balance alerts to avoid toll rejections. Typical recharge slabs are ₹100–₹10,000 depending on the bank.
How to Check FASTag Balance
- Bank/App Dashboard: Login to the app/portal of the issuing bank.
- UPI/Wallet Apps: Balance visible in FASTag section of Paytm, Amazon, PhonePe, etc.
- SMS Alerts: Every deduction or recharge triggers SMS.
- Missed Call/SMS: Some issuers provide a missed call facility for balance.
- For balance check: give a missed call from your registered mobile to +91-8884333331 (toll-free, 24×7).
Note: If you are an NHAI prepaid FASTag customer and your mobile number is registered, you can check balance by giving a missed call to the issuer’s toll-free number.
